What is Spam Musubi Bake?
Spam musubi bake is an easy, family style way to enjoy the flavors of Spam musubi. Instead of forming the rice and Spam into individual pieces, everything is layered into one baking dish.
When you're ready to eat, scoop some of the warm rice and glazed Spam onto a piece of roasted nori. You get rice, crispy Spam, furikake and mayo in every bite without having to make each musubi separately.

😍 Why You'll Love This Recipe
- Easy to make: Everything is layered into one baking dish, so there's no shaping or wrapping individual musubi.
- Great for a crowd: This makes a large 13 x 11 inch pan that's easy to serve at parties, potlucks and game day.
- Simple shortcut: Momofuku Momoyaki sauce gives the Spam plenty of sweet and savory flavor without having to make a separate glaze.
- Homemade option: If you don't have Momoyaki sauce, I've included a quick homemade teriyaki sauce.
- Easy to customize: Add spicy mayo, extra furikake, green onions or your favorite toppings.
- Quick final bake: Once everything is assembled, it only needs 5 to 8 minutes in the oven.
🥘 Spam Musubi Bake recipe ingredients

- Spam or Luncheon Meat: Cut the Spam into small cubes so you get crispy, glazed pieces throughout the bake.
- Momofuku Momoyaki Sauce: This is what I use to glaze the Spam. It's an easy shortcut that adds sweet and savory flavor without having to mix a separate sauce.
- Furikake: Furikake adds savory sesame and seaweed flavor. I sprinkle it between the rice and Spam and add a little more on top before serving.
- Nori: Serve the nori on the side instead of baking it with the rice. This keeps it crisp so you can scoop the Spam and rice onto each piece as you eat.

🍗 Substitutions & Variations
- Momoyaki Sauce: If you don't have Momofuku Momoyaki sauce, use the homemade teriyaki sauce below.
- Spam: Regular Spam works great, but you can also use a lower sodium Spam or your favorite luncheon meat.
- Mayo: Kewpie mayonnaise is what I use, but regular mayo works too.
- White Rice: Short or medium grain white rice works well because it holds together nicely when scooped onto the nori. Sushi rice is another good option.
Homemade Teriyaki Sauce
If you don't have Momoyaki sauce, you can make a quick teriyaki style sauce with:
- ¼ cup low sodium soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon mirin rice wine
- 2 tablespoons white sugar
- 1 teaspoon sesame oil
Mix everything together and add it to the browned Spam. Cook until the sugar dissolves and the sauce reduces enough to coat the Spam.
- Spicy Spam Musubi Bake: Mix sriracha with the mayo or drizzle spicy mayo over the top before serving.
- Extra Furikake: Add another sprinkle of furikake after baking for more flavor.
- Green Onion: Top with thinly sliced green onions for a fresh finish.
- Avocado: Add sliced avocado on the side and tuck a piece into each nori wrap.
🔪 How to make Spam Musubi Bake

- Step 1: Preheat the oven to 375°F. Cut 2 cans of Spam into small, bite sized cubes.

- Step 2: Heat a small amount of cooking oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the diced Spam and cook until browned and slightly crispy around the edges.

- Step 3: Add 3 tablespoons Momofuku Momoyaki sauce to the Spam and toss until evenly coated. If using the homemade teriyaki sauce, add to the Spam and cook until sauce reduces and coats the pieces. ( See recipe above under Substitutions & Variations

- Step 4: Spread 8 cups cooked white rice evenly into a 13 x 11 inch baking dish. Do not compress yet.

- Step 5: Sprinkle furikake evenly over the rice.

- Step 6: Spread the glazed Spam evenly over the furikake and rice.

- Step 7: Drizzle mayonnaise evenly over the Spam and bake at 375°F for 5-8 minutes.

- Step 8: Finish with extra Momoyaki sauce, mayo and furikake. Serve warm with roasted nori sheets on the side.
Hint: Let the Spam get browned and crispy before adding the sauce. Once the edges have some color, add the Momoyaki sauce and toss everything together. This gives the Spam a much better texture.

💡 Recipe Pro tips
Don't overcrowd the Spam: Give the pieces some room in the skillet so they brown instead of steaming.
Keep the pieces small: Bite sized Spam cubes make it easier to get rice, Spam and furikake in every scoop.
Spread the rice evenly: Gently spread the rice into an even layer before adding the furikake and Spam.
Keep the nori separate: Serve the nori on the side so it stays crisp until you're ready to eat.
Set out extra toppings: If you're serving this for a party or game day, put extra mayo, Momoyaki sauce, furikake and nori next to the baking dish so everyone can add their own.
💭 Spam Musubi Bake Recipe FAQ
Spam musubi bake is a layered version of Spam musubi made with rice, furikake, glazed Spam and mayo. Instead of shaping individual musubi, everything is assembled in a baking dish and served with nori.
Short or medium grain white rice works well because it has enough stickiness to hold together when you scoop it onto the nori. Sushi rice is another good option.
To make Spam musubi glaze, combine ¼ cup low sodium soy sauce, 1 tablespoon mirin, 2 tablespoons white sugar, and 1 teaspoon sesame oil. Simmer on medium heat until the sauce thickens.
My favorite ways to cook spam are spam musubi, spam rice balls, and this spam musubi bake!

🫙 Storage
Store leftover Spam musubi bake in an airtight container in the refrigerator.
Keep the nori in a separate container so it doesn't absorb moisture and become soft.
When you're ready to eat, reheat the rice and Spam until hot. Add fresh mayo, Momoyaki sauce and furikake after reheating, then serve with crisp nori.
