Beef Dumplings, a FAMILY tradition for the New Year
Since my kids are young, It has been very important for me to start family traditions to be passed on to my kids. Dumplings are a fun activity and yields a delicious reward. It is very easy to fold dumplings and you can make it as simple or complex as you desire. The easiest way is to just dab water on the edges of the dumpling, fill with 1 teaspoon of filling, and then fold in half and press and seal the edges.

ALWAYS taste test your filling for dumplings!
One of the secrets to always having the tastiest dumplings to you preference is to test a small spoonful of filling before wrapping all your dumplings. This technique is also great for egg rolls as well. Just microwave a spoonful of your filling for 20-30 seconds, let the filling cool down and taste and adjust.

The Best Dipping Sauce
My dumpling dipping sauce is the perfect pair for your dumplings. The Soy sauce provides a nice flavorful savory base for this dip; the sesame oil adds a deeper nutty flavor. The spice of the chili oil heightens your taste buds in combination with the tartness of the black vinegar. The green onions add the perfect pop of freshness, and brings the sauce together perfectly with every bite of dumpling.

- Alternatively , a simpler and faster method to fold the wrapper in half and press and seal the edges flat. When you cook these dumplings they will still ripple up and look beautiful when cooked.
- Continue to fill your dumplings wrappers until done. I am usually able to make about 40 dumplings.
- You can cook these dumplings right away or freeze on a parchment paper with dumplings not touching for about 2 hours, then transfer into a freezer safe bag. Pre-freezing before bagging keeps the dumpings from getting stuck together
Cooking the dumplings:
- Heat a pan to medium high and add oil. Once the oil has heated a few minutes, add the dumplings to the pan and sear 3 minutes until browned.
- Add ¼ cup of water to the pan and immediately cover with a lid. Be careful of the sizzle and splatter.
- Turn the heat to medium and steam for 5-7 minutes covered. Remove the lid and sear for an additional 2 minutes or until all the water has evaporated and the dumplings all have a nice sear.
- If you are cooking frozen dumplings increase the steam cook time to 8-10 minutes.
